KEY CONCEPTS

The Counselor

The Counselor is the one who welcomes and facilitates the person in the discovery of his own potential, promoting self-confidence and the feeling of self-efficacy. At the basic principle of autonomy, the Counselor does not advise the client, but facilitates in the decision-making process and responsibility, in full respect of the feelings and the here and now.

The Counselor helps the client to deal with specific problems such as making decisions or developing self-knowledge, to deal with discomfort and temporary malaise, working on the present because it is here that it is possible to tap into the resources of the person.

It is oriented to the positive, the potentials, the talents.

Counseling

Counseling is a help relationship in which the Counselor facilitates the client in the process of awareness, contacting its own needs and resources, and in experimenting new behaviors.

It is a series of skills and attitudes to help people to help themselves and focused on the development and promotion of the wellbeing of the person.

According to the World Health Organization, Counseling can be defined as a process of dialogue, through which the Counselor helps the client to assess his behaviors (problem analysis help), formulate realistic strategies making decisions and implementing changes (decision making help), and to reduce the emotional discomfort created by the change (psychological help).

It is applied in the personal and  social field, as well as  working groups, in companies, in intercultural, scholastic fields, for prevention, support and activation of resources.

The Integrated, Existential, Humanistic approach

The integrated pluralistic model is based on the integration of different intervention methodologies, such as gestalt, transactional analysis, the person-centered therapy of Rogers, and cognitive behavioral, which allow the Counselor to have different skills and tools to be able to intervene in the most effective and appropriate way in the relationship of help.

The existential Humanistic model is based on the humanistic psychology and the person-centered therapy of Carl Rogers.

Expressive Arts Counseling

Alongside this theoretical system, non-verbal Expressive methodologies such as photography, pictorial art, narrative, poetry, theatre, music, dance, mindfulness (...) make Expressive Arts Counseling a specific help-recipe, which uses the artistic act to facilitate self-awareness through the expression of thoughts and experiences, leading to changes.

The creative process, beyond the content and the final result is evolutionary for the client if it succeeds in understanding what happened to him/her, knowing or to recognizing in its expression the manifestations of its own personality, seen from a different point of view and using what emerged to enrich the experience.
